Bayern Munich vs Inter Review
Davide Frattesi netted a late winner in the 88th minute, securing a 2-1 victory for Inter over Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final, which ended Bayern’s impressive 22-match unbeaten streak at home in the competition. Bayern had a strong start, with Olise coming close to scoring early on when his shot went wide. Inter gradually found their footing but struggled to penetrate Bayern’s defense. Olise was particularly troublesome for Inter, and it was his assist that allowed Harry Kane to take a shot that unfortunately hit the outside of the far post.
Kane’s missed opportunity went unpunished by Carlos Augusto, who soon after struck the side netting at the other end. However, Inter worked hard to score against the odds before halftime. Augusto’s low cross caught the Bayern defense off guard, reaching Marcus Thuram, who flicked it back for Lautaro Martínez to skillfully place into the top corner with the outside of his boot.
Bayern responded by slowing the game down and regained control, but opportunities were scarce, except for a well-hit volley from Raphaël Guerreiro that went just over the bar. The match intensified in the final 10 minutes, with the home team coming close multiple times before finally equalizing. Konrad Laimer controlled Joshua Kimmich’s cross and sent it back across the goal, where Thomas Müller, finding space, tapped it into the open net.
Bayern seemed to be overwhelmed with relief, but they completely lost focus after scoring the equalizer, allowing Inter to score a remarkable winning goal. Nicolò Barella set up Augusto, who selflessly passed it to Frattesi for the finish, quieting the Allianz Arena. This outcome significantly jeopardizes Bayern’s chances of reaching the final at this venue, especially since they have never won a UCL or European Cup knockout tie after losing the first leg at home. On the other hand, Inter’s prospects look brighter as they are favorites to win both the Serie A and Coppa Italia titles, and they could even contend for a treble if they manage to secure a favorable result in the second leg.
