FC Manchester City News: Ahead of City’s fixture against Madrid, Pep Guardiola claims that he has to beat the best to be the best
Pep Guardiola, the head coach of Manchester City, praised Real Madrid for their success in Europe and their consistent form in advance to Tuesday’s Champions League semifinal first leg at the Bernabeu.
When questioned about City’s hopes of winning the Champions League, which have drawn criticism for not having yet materialised, Guardiola preferred to emphasise the value of constantly putting in strong performances, much like Real Madrid has been doing.
Manchester City has advanced to the quarter-finals six times in a row, but has only once reached the finals once, where they fell 1-0 to Chelsea in 2021. Meanwhile, Los Blancos has won the championship five times in the past ten years.
“One day we will reach the final and we will win it,” said Guardiola.
“I wouldn’t like to win the Champions League and then go down and down and down.
“Being stable is the most important things as a club, Madrid are an example.”
Pep Guardiola understands the value of competing against the best, and he believes Real Madrid to be the finest club in the Champions League. For him, his team’s ability to compete against the top-scoring Los Blancos over the next ten days will be a top challenge.
