After England’s World Cup defeat, Gareth Southgate remained vague regarding his future as manager of the team.
In the quarterfinals of the 2022 World Cup in the Al Bayt Stadium, the Three Lions were heartbreakingly defeated by France 2-1.
Aurelien Tchouameni’s long-range wonder goal for Les Bleus gave them the lead, and Harry Kane’s penalty kick tiered the score before Olivier Giroud extended his scoring streak with 53 goals. Sadly, the captain of England missed a second penalty kick opportunity to tie the score.
Although Southgate is under contract until 2024, his future still seems to be up for debate following another England World Cup loss.

Southgate said in his post-match interview: “After every tournament we have sat and reviewed and reflected and that needs a bit of time to make sure everyone makes the right decisions.”
The Three Lionsmanager hailed his team’s effort and insisted that they “couldn’t have given any more,” adding that they deserved better.
Southgate added: “The performance deserved better but in the end goals are decisive.
“I just said to the players they couldn’t have given any more. They played really well against a top team. There’s fine margins and things at both ends that decided the game.
“The way this group has progressed through this tournament has been fantastic.”
