Morocco Has Launched A Complaint To FIFA After Their Defeat To France

Morocco has made a complaint to FIFA regarding Cesar Ramos’ performance as a referee after their 2-0 loss to France on Wednesday.

Walid Regragui’s team was eliminated from the World Cup, as Les Bleus advanced to the final with goals from Theo Hernandez and Randal Kolo Muani. Although they were pushed all the way by Morocco in a thrilling match in the semifinals at Al Bayt Stadium, France put up a professional performance.

The referee made a few debatable rulings during the game, which caused the Atlas Lions to lose their cool. When Hernandez was fouled by Sofiane Boufal, Morocco were perplexed by the judgment since it seemed like it should have been reversed.

The France left-back slid into the box, grabbed Boufal with an extended leg, and sent him tumbling to the ground. But Ramos decided to give France a free kick instead of what seemed to be a penalty, much to the chagrin of the Moroccan players, coaching staff, and stadium spectators.

The Royal Football Federation of Morocco has now acknowledged that they have complained to FIFA about his performance. They also contend that Selim Amallah’s foul after being brought down from a free kick should have resulted in a penalty. Ramos ruled there was no infraction and allowed the game to continue. In both incidents, VAR opted not to intervene because it believed the referee had made the correct decision.

Any complaints are doubtful to have any impact, especially given how close the World Cup final between France and Argentina at Lusail Stadium is. Morocco will compete this weekend against Croatia in the third-or-fourth place play-off.

In a statement the RFFM said: “The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) strongly protested against the arbitration of the Morocco-France match officiated by Mr. Cesar Arturo Ramos. To this end, the FRMF sent a letter to the competent body in which it returns to the arbitration situations which deprived the Moroccan selection of two indisputable penalties in the opinion of several arbitration specialists.

“The FRMF also expressed its great astonishment that the Video Assistance to Arbitration (VAR) system did not react to these arbitration situations. The FRMF recalls that it will spare no effort to defend and preserve the rights of the National Selections by advocating fairness in arbitration and by denouncing these arbitration decisions taken during this semi-final confrontation of the World Cup. of FIFA Qatar 2022.”
