Anthony Taylor and his family were harassed by AS Roma fans after the Europa final at the airport

The PGMOL, which is responsible for managing referees in English professional football, denounced the mistreatment of Anthony Taylor and his family by AS Roma supporters at Budapest Airport, following the circulation of videos on social media.

On Wednesday, Taylor was put under scrutiny after Roma’s defeat in a penalty shootout against Sevilla in the final of UEFA’s second-tier competition.

“We are appalled at the unjustified and abhorrent abuse directed at Anthony and his family as he tries to make his way home from refereeing the UEFA Europa League final,” a statement from PGMOL said.

The referee’s performance was criticized by Roma’s manager, Jose Mourinho, who was caught on camera shouting at the match officials outside the Puskas Arena.

“It was an intense, masculine, vibrant game with a referee who seemed Spanish. It was yellow, yellow, yellow all the time,” Mourinho said.

The video shows Roma supporters harassing and mistreating Taylor and his family, causing them to seek refuge in a secure location with the assistance of airport security. Additionally, precautions were taken to protect Taylor from being hit by water or objects thrown at him.

“We will continue to provide our full support to Anthony and his family,” PGMOL added.
