PSG vs Tottenham Review
PSG made an impressive comeback from being two goals behind to defeat Tottenham on penalties and claim the UEFA Super Cup, securing their fifth trophy of 2025. Six minutes into the game at the Bluenergy Stadium in Udine, PSG started to demonstrate their skill, but a complex team move ended with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, off balance, sending his shot wide. Around the middle of the first half, Richarlison won possession in midfield for Spurs and surged forward, combining with Mohamed Kudus in a one-two before firing a powerful first-time shot that PSG’s new goalkeeper, Lucas Chevalier, had to tip over the crossbar.

Kudus tried his luck shortly after, but a brilliant block from Marquinhos stopped him. Then, the impressive underdogs took the lead seven minutes before halftime. Cristian Romero headed Guglielmo Vicario’s free-kick into the penalty area, where João Palhinha appeared from the crowd to direct the ball towards goal. Chevalier made an excellent save, deflecting the ball onto the post, but he couldn’t prevent Micky van de Ven from quickly scoring on the rebound. Spurs came close to a second goal when Kudus dived at Richarlison’s header, but his own header hit the post.

Two minutes into the second half, another Spurs free-kick was delivered to Romero at the far post. This time, he aimed for goal himself, and his header slipped under the diving Chevalier, making it 2-0. The pressure kept coming, with Porro and Kevin Danso both seeing their shots narrowly miss the target. With 25 minutes remaining, PSG finally managed a shot on target thanks to Désiré Doué, who forced Vicario to make a save. Fabián Ruiz then collected the rebound and assisted Bradley Barcola, who scored, but the goal was disallowed due to an offside call against the Spaniard.

This led to an extended period of pressure from Paris, which remained ineffective until five minutes before the end, when Lee Kang-in delivered a precise shot from the edge of the box. In the dying moments of added time, PSG’s persistent attacks paid off as they completed their comeback when Ousmane Dembélé’s cross was headed in by Gonçalo Ramos.

Consequently, the UEFA Super Cup was decided by a penalty shootout, where Tottenham initially took the lead after Vitinha missed PSG’s first penalty. However, the Parisians equalized after three penalties each when Van de Ven’s attempt was saved by Chevalier. Things worsened for Spurs when Mathys Tel missed, allowing Nuno Mendes to score the winning penalty and secure PSG as the first French team to win the UEFA Super Cup.
