Real Madrid vs Las Palmas Review
Real Madrid bounced back from an early setback to secure a convincing 4-1 victory over Las Palmas, extending Los Amarillos’ winless streak in away La Liga matches against them to 36 games. Knowing that a win would put them at the top of the table, Los Blancos faced an unexpected challenge just 28 seconds into the match when Fábio Silva scored from Sandro Ramírez’s cross.
The crowd at the Bernabéu was further stunned when Brahim Díaz squandered a great opportunity, and Kylian Mbappé’s shot was deflected and saved by Jasper Cillessen, hitting the post. After assisting the first goal, Sandro inadvertently provided Real Madrid a chance to equalize by fouling Rodrygo in the box, leading to a penalty that Mbappé confidently converted, sending Cillessen the wrong way.
The hosts dominated possession and applied pressure, leading to Brahim’s deflected shot being saved before Cillessen made impressive saves against Mbappé and Rodrygo. The Dutch goalkeeper managed to stop Mbappé again in the 33rd minute, but he couldn’t prevent Brahim from scoring with an assist from Vázquez. Just three minutes later, Mbappé scored with a precise first-time finish from Rodrygo’s bouncing pass. He had another goal disallowed for offside, narrowly missing a first-half hat-trick shortly after.
After the break, all attention returned to Mbappé, who assisted Rodrygo for a goal into the bottom corner. Their explosive start felt like a distant memory, and things worsened for Las Palmas in the 64th minute when substitute Benito Ramírez completely misplayed the ball and caught Vázquez with his studs and was subsequently sent off.
Jude Bellingham believed he had scored 10 minutes later, but his goal was disallowed because Antonio Rüdiger was offside when he contested Rodrygo’s free-kick. Real Madrid had already secured their first 90-minute victory in three competitive matches, and they even managed to score a sixth goal, although Federico Valverde’s stunning strike in the 88th minute was also ruled out for offside.
The night also featured David Alaba returning to the field to a warm reception after being sidelined for 399 days due to injury. As a result, Los Blancos are once again at the top of La Liga, ahead of city rivals Atlético Madrid. Meanwhile, Las Palmas has now experienced consecutive losses for the first time under Diego Martínez and is only three points clear of the relegation zone.
