Kai Havertz has expressed his dissatisfaction on talks about the position he plays best

After Germany’s World Cup loss to Japan, Kai Havertz became irritated when people questioned what his best position was.

Many questioned Havertz to lead the line at the highest level after his underwhelming performance as a striker in Germany’s 2-1 defeat in their opening match in Qatar against Japan. The forward’s ability to score goals has received a lot of attention, amid his recent struggles at Chelsea.

Kai Havertz was forthright when questioned about it in a press conference: “The position issue is really getting on my nerves now.

“Everyone knows that I can play on the right, on the left, as a No. 9 and as a No. 10. Of course the positions are different, but I can play anything up front.”

He added: “I really like the No. 9 position, but I also know that as a striker you have to score goals. If I play there again on Sunday, I’ll give my best once more.”

Despite acknowledging that playing as a team’s primary striker is how he prefers to play, Havertz has had trouble maintaining a consistently productive run of form. In 13 Premier League games this season, he’s scored just three goals, failed to step up when Romelu Lukaku wasn’t available, and struggled against Japan to even enter the game.

With the national team, Hansi Flick is particularly lacking in options for pure strikers because Havertz is so versatile and Thomas Muller is a more agile attacker.
